Decarbonizing heavy industry is no longer a vision - it’s an engineering reality. Liebherr has developed a battery-electric mining truck that moves up to 240 tons through harsh open-cast mines. Within this vehicle, voltages up to 3,500 V, system power reaching 6 MW, extreme thermal loads, vibration, dust, and electromagnetic interference are all interacting in one tightly coupled system.
When Liebherr set out to design a next-generation test bench for its battery-electric mining truck drivetrain, the goal was clear:
- validate the full powertrain as an integrated system at various voltage levels
- ensure safety and reliability in a high-voltage environment
- remain flexible for future technologies and evolving test scenarios
By involving imc Test & Measurement early in the planning phase, Liebherr was able to translate complex requirements into a scalable, future-proof measurement architecture - one that could grow with the project rather than limit it. In total, around 900 measurement channels are synchronously recorded and monitored at a test bench that exceeds all superlatives, not as isolated signals, but as part of one coherent system.
